Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information the CT Bus app ("the App") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. CT Bus is published by DiNerd Apps.

CT Bus has no accounts and no login. We never ask for your name, email address, or phone number, and we do not build a profile of you.

1. Information stored only on your device

The following stays on your iPhone and is never transmitted to us:

Location: If you grant location permission, the App uses your location to find nearby stops, sort routes by distance, and calculate how far away a bus is. Your location is used on-device and is not sent to our servers.
Your selected area, favorite stops, and preferences: Stored locally on your device. Favorites are shared with the CT Bus widget through a private app group container on your device only.
Ask (AI) questions: The "Ask" feature runs on Apple's on-device AI. Your questions are processed on your iPhone and are not sent to us or to any third-party AI service.

2. Transit data requests

The App fetches publicly available transit data directly from CTtransit:

GTFS schedule data (routes, stops, timetables)
GTFS-Realtime feeds (vehicle positions, trip updates, service alerts)

These requests do not include your location, your favorites, or any personal identifier.

3. Analytics and diagnostics

The App uses Google Firebase to understand how the App is used and to find and fix crashes and performance problems:

Firebase Analytics — records anonymous usage events such as which screens are opened, which routes are viewed, which area is selected, and which features are used. This data is not linked to your identity.
Firebase Crashlytics — records crash reports, including device model, iOS version, and the state of the App at the time of the crash.
Firebase Performance Monitoring — records app start times and network request timings.

Firebase may collect device and usage information, including an app instance identifier, in line with Google's privacy practices. We use this information in aggregate to improve the App. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not sell it.

4. Advertising

The App displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may collect and use device information — including advertising identifiers, coarse location, IP address, and ad interaction data — to serve and measure ads, in accordance with Google's advertising policies.

On iOS, personalized advertising requires your permission. If you decline the App Tracking Transparency prompt, or turn off Allow Apps to Request to Track in iOS Settings, ads will be non-personalized. You can review this at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

5. Notifications

If you enable notifications, the App schedules arrival reminders locally on your device. Live Activities display bus tracking on your lock screen and Dynamic Island. Notification content is generated on your device.

6. Data retention

Data stored on your device stays until you delete it in the App or uninstall the App. Analytics and crash data are retained by Google according to their own retention policies and the retention settings configured for this project.

7. Children's privacy

The App is a general-audience transit information tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Your choices

Location: Revoke or change access at any time under Settings → CT Bus → Location. The App still works without it; nearby-stop features will be limited.
Tracking / personalized ads: Manage under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Notifications: Manage under Settings → CT Bus → Notifications.
Everything else: Deleting the App removes all locally stored data.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "last updated" date.
